The revision record

ISO/IEC DIS 9798-5 is the fourth edition of the entity authentication part on zero-knowledge mechanisms, and it replaces ISO/IEC 9798-5:2009. ISO records it at stage 40.20, DIS ballot initiated for 12 weeks, on 17 September 2026. This page states the public facts, the date used for planning, and the basis for each.

Stage 40.20  |  stage date 17 September 2026  |  planning date 16 September 2027

The recorded steps

Only the milestones this site can source are listed: the stage history from the ISO record and the current stage from the ISO feed. The rows after the ballot are blank because ISO has not recorded them. The site does not fill that gap from memory or from someone else's summary.

Why the planning date is not the publication date

The brief carried 16 September 2027 as the key date, estimated from stage 40.20. ISO has not published a close of voting, an approval date or a publication date. The site keeps that date as a labelled planning estimate and shows the recorded stage date as the fact that moves it. The site therefore does three things. It shows the stage date as the fact that moves the plan. It keeps 16 September 2027 as an outer date so that a committee paper has a date to work to. And it labels the outer date as an estimate on every page that carries it, including this one.

The practical reading: treat the close of voting as the trigger for the publication check and the later date as the deadline. If publication lands between the two, the register does not change, only the date on the plan.

What the fourth edition covers

The public abstract names five families and the same qualification on zero-knowledge. The revision keeps the families and revisits their requirements, key production, exchanges, identifiers and guidance. It does not turn the part into a management system standard, and it does not withdraw the mechanisms that a working estate already uses before publication.

How this record is kept current

A refresh script reads the public ISO feed and compares the designation, title, stage, stage date, committee and ICS with this record. Any difference fails the script loudly and writes the diff. That diff is what the paid watch sends, which is why the watch competes on interpretation rather than on the raw stage: the stage itself is free from ISO.
